So here, I’ve layout the 5 steps on how to make a video for online business.

1. Define the purpose of the video

This would be start of everything. We’ll need to define the objective or purpose of making the video. Ask yourself why you need to create this video? What’s the target that you want to achieve?

Write the purpose or objective down as this will help in defining your target audience and also minimize your scope of work. This will provide you with a clear picture on what needs to be done, and you’ll be more focus.

Some of the example of purpose may be:

  • To pre-inform customers on upcoming new product launch
  • To inform customers on new features added to the existing product
  • To pre-inform customers there’s an upcoming sales
  • To pre-inform customers there’s an upcoming roadshow
  • To inform customers how the product can solve their problem
  • To cultivate awareness of the brand
  • To attract join-venture partners to get involved
  • To get more engagement from the viewer
  • As a sales copy to sell a product
  • Explanation on how to use a product
  • Etc.

2. Make a script of the video

Now we’re on step two. We’ll need to come up with the script for the video that we want to make. The script is simply an evaluation from your purpose, which includes the items that you want to put into the video.

In this very steps, it involves brainstorming session with the team and come out with the relevant idea that’s useful for the video creation. This will further define precisely how the video will looks like at the end.

It is like an advertising / marketing agency trying to sell ideas to the company for TV advertising. The agency always come up with various ideas and the company will choose what they think works.

In this step, research is also important in helping to support the idea. Statistical data usually works well to make people to feel certain.

3. Visualize the flow

In this step, you’ll need to decide what needs to put in first, followed by another. The sequence plays an important role to the success of a promotion. Different sequence may result in different outcome.

I’ll recommend to draw out the flow, and then point out what kinda resources you’ll need to add in to support the idea. By that way, it’ll be easier for video producing later on.

The plot normally involves elements below:

  • Storytelling / introduction
  • Ask question
  • Show the problem
  • Emphasize the severity if problem not solve
  • Introduce solution
  • Reason why this solution works
  • What you can achieve after apply the solution
  • Call-to-action
  • Branding

4. Produce the video

So this step is the production part. You’ll need to produce the video based on the plan from the four previous steps. Of course, if you have enough budget you can always hire someone else to do it for you. You can get some pretty cheap service at Fiverr. But if your budget is tight, you can always produce the video yourself, just have to spend more time.

If you’re into making the video yourself, you can read my other post on 5 recommended video tools to create or edit your videos.

After you produce the video, remember to view it a few times to make sure everything works as intended. Stand on viewer’s viewpoint and evaluate if it is tally with your objective you set earlier. If it’s not fulfilling your initial purpose, then you may want to start over again from step 2.

If you’re paying for someone on the task, check various time until you satisfy. You’re entitled to ask for revision if you’re not satisfied with the final product.

One more thing, the video would preferably in .mp4 format as it can be viewed by most devices. Plus most of the platforms will be able to accept the upload.

5. Publish video to various platforms

For online business you’re actually targeting online audience. So there are plenty of platforms you can use to publish your video. The most popular ones are YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Tumblr, Google+, LinkedIn, Vimeo, Dailymotion, etc. All of these platforms accept .mp4 format video.

A thing to take note is, make sure to include description of the video for SEO purpose. This is to help rank the video for SERP, hence getting more free traffic. You can check out this YouTube domination training course as well in order get step-by-step guide on how to rank a video and get lots of traffic.

I hope the above guidelines will be able to help you make a video for your online business. Using video marketing not only it will help improve engagement with your clients or customer, it also will help siphon some new leads to know more about your business. Video marketing has become more important than ever, since most of the people like to spend the time watching instead of reading. Even Google search result you can see most of the time video being ranked at the top of the page. If you’re not in the video marketing game, you’re losing out.

Hope you’ll have a great success!
